Eye / Lasik Care

What is LASIK?

LASIK, an acronym for Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis, is a cutting-edge surgical procedure aimed at rectifying common vision impairments like nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. It operates by reshaping the cornea, the eye’s transparent front surface, using a laser to optimize the focus of light onto the retina, thereby enhancing vision clarity. This outpatient procedure typically lasts around 15 minutes per eye and involves creating a thin corneal flap, reshaping the underlying tissue with an excimer laser, and then repositioning the flap without stitches. LASIK offers numerous advantages such as improved vision quality, long-lasting results, convenience, and rapid recovery. However, suitability varies among individuals, necessitating thorough pre-operative evaluation and consultation with an eye surgeon to assess candidacy and discuss potential risks and benefits. Despite these considerations, LASIK remains a pioneering solution for individuals seeking freedom from glasses or contact lenses and has transformed vision correction practices globally.

Refractive Surgery

Refractive surgery, including LASIK, Femto LASIK, and SMILE, corrects vision issues like myopia and astigmatism using laser technology. These procedures reshape the cornea to improve sight, offering alternatives to glasses or contacts, under the broader field of ophthalmology.

Cataract surgery

A cataract is a cloudy area in the lens of your eye that can make it hard to see clearly. The doctor uses tiny tools to remove and replace the cloudy lens with an artificial lens.

Glaucoma surgery

For glaucoma implants, the doctor inserts a tiny tube called a shunt into the white of your eye; the tube helps extra fluid drain out of your eye, lowering your eye pressure. In a trabeculectomy, the doctor creates a tiny opening in the top of your eye, under your eyelid, to allow the extra fluid to drain.

Squint eye surgery

Squint eye surgery, also known as strabismus surgery, is a procedure performed to correct misalignment of the eyes, where the eyes do not look in the same direction at the same time. Squint, or strabismus, can be present from birth or develop in childhood

Corneal transplant

The doctor uses a special tool to keep your eye open while removing the damaged part of your cornea and replacing it with healthy donor tissue. Doctors can do a full-thickness corneal transplant (penetrating keratoplasty) or a partial-thickness transplant (lamellar keratoplasty).

Retina Surgery

Retina surgery encompasses procedures addressing various retina-related conditions like detachment and macular degeneration. Techniques like vitrectomy and membrane peeling are common. These surgeries aim to improve vision but require careful management due to associated risks.
